Hello, I wrote something new for @unreasonable
on the impacts of deforestation in Borneo. The palm oil industry is gradually overtaking the Southeast Asian island, lining the pockets of shady billionaires and corrupt politicians. Indigenous tribes and wildlife, such as orangutans and pygmy elephants, stand to lose the most as private companies clear their native land for plantations. Palm oil is used almost exclusively in ancillary consumer products, and its production poses insurmountable hazards to the sustainability of the island’s natural resources and climate. Read on, friends. Link in bio ♻️

Reports were replaced with wine and dinner, the study traded for the dining hall. Clinging to Orthrus’s large arm as we walked became routine over the last few days. His presence was a comfort. The way he held himself so assured and confident, the way his intense gaze seemed to drink me in and the way he seemed to lighten in my presence. Maybe I was as much as a comfort to him as he was to me. A fool’s thought. We talked lightly as we ate and drank late into the night. It was hard to part from him when we finally turned in for the night. Was it really a fool’s thought?
Yesterday morning I decided to take a break from my studies to connect and care for myself. 💫
After a nice long shower I spend some time journaling 📒 and soaked up some puppy cuddles!
Journaling is a new practice for me, but one that I have grown to love ❤ . I used to be very hard on myself and my level of writing - thinking I wasn't very good - until I realized that's not the point of journaling! 🤯 In fact, being critical of myself is the opposite of what I should be doing! So instead, I use it as a practice to put the self-critic in me aside focus on connect with myself and exploring my thoughts and emotions. 💡
Journaling has been a proven and effective tool in the mental health field for a long time now and it produces a wide range of positive benefits. Everything from improved mental health to goal making and progress tracking.
Journaling can be especially benefecial when pregnant or during your journey to conception 👶. Journaling while pregnant is a safe outlet to process emotions, thoughts and feelings around pregnancy, birth, and approaching role as a parent - if that's the direction you're choosing to take. Journaling is also beneficial when working through fertility struggles and processing adoption or abortion.
Journaling can also be a wonderful keep-sake to capture fleeting observations about pregnancy and record different milestones.
Journaling is also an opportunity for bonding with your changing body, and your little bun in the oven!
So next time you're feeling overwhelmed with emotions or looking for a self-care activity, consider pick up a pen and paper!
"That's what real love amounts to - letting a person be what he really is. Most people love you for who you pretend to be. To keep their love, you keep pretending - performing. You get to love your pretence. It's true, we're locked in an image - and the sad thing is, people get so used to their image, they grow attached to their masks. They love their chains. They forget about who they really are. And if you try to remind them, they hate you for it--they feel like you're trying to steal their most precious possession." - Jim Morrison
A few things:
1. I am planning to release another little EP in the fall when I'm back in Canada for a few weeks.
2. I have 2 live videos in queue to share with you, as well as the loveliest music video for my song "Sometimes" made by my Russian and Iranian friends, who I will introduce to you soon!
3. For the home locals: I will be having a concert in Saskatoon at the lovely @caloriesrestaurant
on October 21st. Ticket sales will be all word of mouth this time because it is a small and intimate venue, so send me a DM soon to save a couple for you if you want to be there!
Sure you are❤
