"The One" and the guarantee.
People love one person, unrequited, throughout their lives and never accept other's love towards them. Some, lucky ones, get their feelings reciprocated by the person they consider “the one”, only to realize long after that they made a wrong choice all along. People jump from one relationship to another to find "the one", creating collateral damage in their wake. Yes, you could argue that maybe I am "the one" and it won't happen to me. But then, there are people who get out of love with "the one" after years of relationship, some courageous or vicious (read as per your perception) enough to leave while others just get stuck, hating their lives and partner everyday nonetheless. Or maybe you can have a fairytale happy ending only for death to do you apart much sooner than expected, making you question everything. So, where is the guarantee?
The point of the matter is I am dispensable and so are you. I can be "the one" and there still wouldn't be any guarantee. I could be a collateral damage and would feel blindsided for sometime, but on the bright side, I'd be free much sooner than most. The bottom line is there's no guarantee yet we spend our lives chasing or putting up with people or compromising our lives in the hopes of getting them or controlling them or worst of all, keeping them, only because we believe they're "the one" and we're "the one" of their lives.
Is the knowledge that we are dispensable such a bad thing? Isn't it humbling enough? But mostly, doesn't it make you feel free? The knowledge that there's no guarantee and you can stop putting up with anything that brings you down, that the only true "one" in your life is you, yourself and it was never about the other person anyway. It might be a bitter pill to swallow at first but doesn't it magically lower your expectations and dependence on others. Doesn't it create an arena of self sufficiency, for you to step up for yourself? 'cause right there is your guarantee, the most foolproof one you can ever get. You are ”the one” that lives for you, breathes for you, can actually die for you and the only one you can control, change and turn into anything you want.
