Gajan is a festival of village folk. The word "Gajan" comes from the Bengali word "Garjan" or Roar. Gajan is associated with Gods as Shiva, Neel and Dharmathakur. It runs around a week starting at the last week of chaitro continuing till the end of the Bengali calender year. Participants of this festival are known as sannyasi or bhokto.
The central theme of this festival is deriving satisfaction through non-sexual pain devotion and sacrifice.
