· · · 2265. “I didn’t even think it was possible, you know what I mean?” A couple of years ago, Colin Shebby decided to go back to school for his Associate’s degree in Healthcare Studies and now happily sports a 4.0 GPA. When he graduated high school, he went off to college at @bloomsburgu
, but shortly after transferred to @templeuniv.
Once he moved back into the city, though, Colin fell into a cycle of drug and alcohol addiction, which he then battled throughout the entirety of his twenties. Alongside building his career as a hairdresser at salons in the city, he tried repeatedly to get clean and during his 10th time in rehab fully committed to staying sober. “I was doing push-ups and I just collapsed and said, ‘This is it.’” Colin made up his mind to stay healthy and has since stuck to it as he’ll be celebrating 5 years sober this upcoming April. Nowadays, he focuses most of his energy on making his clients happy, doing their hair from 7am-2pm each day, while working towards his degree in the afternoons/evenings. Though he’s not completely sure how he’ll use his new knowledge after he graduates, Colin explained he just wanted to prove to himself that he could reach his goal. With all A’s so far, he’s well on his way and will fully complete his degree in 2019, adding to his recent accomplishment of being promoted at his job! Awesome meeting you and keep it up, @colin_richard
