HOW AGING EFFECTS OUR BODIES by @lb3fitness
👴🏻 We’ve all heard it before “I used to be able to eat like that when I was younger, now it goes straight to my hips”.
😭Cry me a river grandpa
😳 That’s how I used to think. Now that I’m nearing 30 (29 today to be exact), the effects of aging are real.
🧐 The effects shown in the pic are just some of the many changes that happen to our body as we age. I chose these specifically though, because they all have a direct correlation with fitness, and body composition.
📚 RMR is how many calories you burn. As that gets lower, eating the same way you did in the past will now make you gain weight.
📉 Lean body mass, ie bone and muscle, burn calories as fuel. They also make us stronger, so we can do more. As we lose these, we burn less calories, hello fat deposits.
💓 V02 max & cardiac output both have direct correlation with how hard we can work, especially during exercise. As these decrease, we can’t work as hard, and thus can’t burn as many calories. Noticing a trend here?
😵 Fret not though friends. I’m not just here to tell you “bad news, you’re gonna get fat and old and die” ☠️
👊🏻 actually, I’m here to tell you that while all these things have a common thread of leaving you in worse physical shape, there is also one common solution: exercise.
🕒 Now although nothing can stop Father Time, a good strength training routine is the closest thing we have to a fountain of youth.
🏋🏼♂️ Consistent, high level exercise actually acts directly to counteract each of these effects. It will work to increase all of these 4 metrics, fighting against the decline that aging naturally sends them on.
🤔 So, it’s up to you. Sit around, and let your body age you into a pile of out of breath dust.
🏃🏼♂️Or, get moving. get exercising, and have the strength and fitness of a person half your age by the time you’re 50 or 60 (and give Father Time a swift kick in the 🍆)
🙏🏻 Tag a friend, and let them know! It’s never too late to start, we aren’t getting any younger!
