Revealed: why grapes spark when you microwave them. For more than two decades, millions of science-curious viewers have been captivated by online videos showing grapes sparking and creating light shows when microwaved.
Scientists and commentators have posed theories explaining why this happens, but Canadian researchers have now solved the mystery once and for all, reporting their findings in the journal PNAS.
The party trick commonly involves cutting a grape nearly in half, leaving the skin intact on one side, and popping it in the microwave. After several seconds, the radiation ignites a hotspot. The grape sparks in the middle and sends off a bright puff of light, or plasma.
One popular theory proposed that the hotspot creating the spark occurs because the skin conducts electrons back and forth........For more head over to our website 👌 (link in bio)
Seven Syrian refugee children die in early morning Halifax house fire. .Ebraheim and Kawthar Barho, who immigrated to an area outside of Halifax from Syria, are pictured with their children as they arrive at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport on Sept. 29, 2017. Their children pictured are Rana, Hala, Ghala, Mohammed, Rola and Ahmed. Abdullah, the youngest, was born after this photo was taken and was four months old at the time of the fire.

It was just after midnight Tuesday when a loud bang followed by screaming drew suburban residents of a newly built enclave into the street. They watched, horrified, as neighbours held back a woman flailing as fire consumed her house, killing her seven children and critically injuring her husband.
Investigators spent the day sifting through charred remnants inside the three-storey Halifax house in hopes of uncovering the cause of the blaze. It claimed all the children of a Syrian immigrant couple who recently moved to the neighbourhood from an area outside of Halifax in hopes of improving their English skills and getting jobs. “It’s the largest loss that we have in our memory,” Halifax deputy fire chief Dave Meldrum said.

Friends of the family identified the husband and wife as Ebraheim and Kawthar Barho, who immigrated from Syria in 2017. Their children were Abdullah, Rana, Hala, Ghala, Mohammed, Rola and Ahmed, and ranged in age from four months to 15 years old. “The family was lovely. I can’t imagine life without those children,” said Natalie Horne, a member of the volunteer group Hants East Assisting Refugees Team (HEART) Society, which helped sponsor the Barhos.
The Barhos’ arrival in 2017 was met with so much excitement that it was covered in the local paper. “We’re very thrilled to be in Canada,” Ms. Barho told the Enfield Weekly Press. “We couldn’t imagine how good it is.” The family’s children were fast to make friends and “have been able to enjoy life as kids should be able to: going to school, riding bicycles, swimming........For more head over to our website 👌 (link in bio)
BUSINESSProvince scales back crude-by-rail plan, will lease 4,400 cars. The Alberta government will lease 4,400 rail cars to move oil out of the province, resulting in capacity of 120,000 barrels per day by mid-2020, Premier Rachel Notley said Tuesday.
Instead of purchasing rail cars, the government as part of its crude-by-rail strategy will buy rail service from Canadian Pacific Railway and Canadian National Railway to ship crude oil to international markets, including the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Initial estimates last November called for 7,000 rail cars, but the province decided only 4,400 would be required after talks with the railway companies found more efficient rail routes to move the 120,000 barrels of oil per day, the original goal set by the government.
Along with curtailment measures, Notley said this plan is an interim solution to help curb the oil price differential, reiterating that pipelines to tidewater is the only long-term option..........For more head over to our website 👌 (link in bio)
Canadian regulator won't consider climate impacts of Trans Mountain. Canada’s energy regulator, the National Energy Board (NEB), has dismissed a legal motion requesting that it consider all climate change impacts in its review of the Trans Mountain oil pipeline and tanker expansion project.
In a decision released on Tuesday, the regulator ruled out the motion from the environmental organization Stand.earth to “meaningfully consider the general impact” on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change associated with oil that would be transported on the proposed pipeline.
A separate NEB panel made an entirely different decision in 2017, requiring a larger evaluation of climate change impacts, during its review of the proposed Energy East pipeline, a project that was later terminated by its proponent, TransCanada.
The Trans Mountain project would expand an existing pipeline system, tripling capacity to transport up to 890,000 barrels of bitumen and other petroleum products from Alberta to a terminal in Burnaby, B.C........For more head over to our website 👌 (link in bio)

Manny Machado has just signed a monster $300 million contract with Padres. However when adjusting for inflation, the $300 million deal does not top the MLB free agent record. The $252 million A-Rod received in 2000 is worth around $368 million in today’s dollars

Virtus Bk Pontinia 61 - Stelle Marine 58
