Day 22: Double feature - Best + worst cover art. I really don't have one favourite #vinyl
album cover, so I've chosen one of my favourites. I have a definite worst.
Deee-Lite's debut album "World Clique" is great on so many levels. Their styling has that whole late 80s/early 90s club fashion/second summer of love vibe, which carries through in the design. The out-of-focus daisies superimposed on the night sky image on the front and the daytime sky image on the back invoke late 60s flower power, as does the font. It's psychedelia for modern club kids, Hanna Barbera happiness for a new age. I have to do credits...

OK... WORST COVER DESIGN... The absolute worst in my collection is the cover for "Souled Out" (swipe ⬅) a really good compilation of soul music, but a really awful, racist portrayal of a black man as the "golliwog" figure. This compilation was only issued in Australia, not sure what year, but my guess is circa 1974, and this definitely wouldn't have happened in so many other parts of the world. I was surprised to learn recently that very few African American musicians/bands had even toured Australia until the early to mid 70s. Racism... uuugghhh... Generally terrible design overall.
