Back in November, James was unable to bend at the knee and unable to kneel down to skate or to simply be able to help his bathe his little one. This was due to severe pain and weakened muscles. He sure has come a long way and improved greatly since then! . . Not only has his strength improved and his pain is gone, but his range of motion, and balance are further than he’d ever imagined. James is back to skating and we couldn’t be happier! 💥 . . James is ready to return to sport and Dr. Marissa made him prove it. Look at him go! Have you ever looked at the recommended servings list for daily nutrients? I hadn’t, but was shocked at what is expected of us when I did. Trying to meet the daily dose of 9 servings of fruits and veggies is daunting. . I wondered what qualifies as a “serving”. According to health.gov: . For veggies: 1 cup of raw leafy vegetables; 1/2 cup of other vegetables cooked or raw; or 3/4 cup of vegetable juice. . For fruits: 1 medium apple, banana, orange, pear; 1/2 cup of chopped, cooked, or canned fruit; or 3/4 cup of fruit juice. . I’m fairly good about having veggies and fruits with at least two meals or snacks a day, but even that’s well below recommended. Similar as with our finances, fortunately there are some “hacks” to help stay on track. The past month in addition to my regular meals, I’ve used and loved Opti Greens 50 as a hack in meeting the recommended dose. With 11 daily servings of fruits and veggies it’s helped me a lot with energy. . I used to drink two cups of coffee a day. This month I’m down to zero. Not that anything is wrong with coffee, but I feel a lot better and it’s rewarding knowing I’m getting my veggies in. . I’ve only just started learning more about nutrition, but it was surprising to see how far off I was from getting the recommended daily nutrients found in fruits and veggies despite thinking I ate pretty healthy. . Do you want to develop a strong back? You have to include rows in your workouts. If you don't have access to a machine, then you can use bands or a TRX setup as demonstrated here. The best part about TRX rows is that you can adjust the difficulty on the fly! Stand more upright for less resistance and shift to a more parallel to the floor position for more resistance. Motivation to me comes from progress. Now that I’m back from my vacation I’m ready to hit the gym harder than ever 💪🏼. . From February 9th to March 9th. I feel like in one month I’ve gotten so much stronger and I’ve made some real gains 💪🏼😎. . Front squats is a fairly new lift to me and I started with just the bar and I’ve progressed to do 135lb. This is Andrew from about a month ago. In the first video he was lifting 200lbs which led to back pain. So the following weeks we lowered his weight and just focused on maintaining a braced neutral spine. As you can see within a short amount of time he lifted the exact same weight with no pain and a better position. He put his ego to the side and he decided he was going to do it right. That’s a perfect example of how someone should approach lifting weights.
