My stomach rumbles in aching hunger. My muscles are weak with fatigue. My skin is numb from the dry and cold hospital air. My feet suffer from hours of standing. My eyes are heavy with sleepiness. My pager complains of a low battery. My phone does the same. My head throbs with good reason. My inbox overflows with unread emails and priority alerts. My credit cards are maxed out. My conscience is heavy with guilt for not taking care of my physical well-being this week. My social life is in agony. My health is in crisis. But all you see and hear is a smile and the words "good morning," respectively. -m
A Day in the life of a CFHN🕺 .
My ❤ is so freaking Full!
.. what a way to start my last Bush trip for 2018.... honestly this year has by far been the greatest Year in my Life!... I've travelled across the world... I've changed jobs. moved towns.... but oh my gosh it's been rewarding & worth ever up and every down!!!
Although living remote gets tough.... being a solo CFH nurse for 65 + kids under 5 is far from easy.... BUT on days like this its TOTALLY WORTH IT!
I got to be apart of the little ones Graduation from preschool to "Big school" 📸📚👩🎓👨🎓.... & I got to give back & flood these cuties with goodies! Cupcakes for everyone & hand wrapped presents just from Me!
this old community often gets a bad name... but when Your out here you honestly see the True beauty of & amazing Love that's here!.... I've never seen something so special😘😍 to see the love and happiness on the kids and families faces is a memory I'll keep forever!
Ali Curung~ you've welcomed me into your community with open hands & it's been a freaking pleasure to practice as A Child and family nurse here for the past few months, let the adventures & memories continue xoxo

Let's talk about night shift for a bit. Some people hate it some people love it. I fall in the small category of people who absolutely love it! One thing people warned me about though was the fact that it is very easy to gain weight on night shift. Thats cause the cafeteria is closed and you have to resort to vending machines and let's be honest there's not that many healthy options there. Or you're too tired to cook after work to make food so you buy frozen food to bring in. Hey no judgement I've been there before plus i always crave chips or resort to soda to stay awake. But as I've gotten used to night shift, here are just a few tips on how to remain healthy while adjusting to the night life.
1. Drink plenty of water. Sounds silly but sometimes your body isnt hungry it's just thirsty. Also I've it's better at keeping you hydrated than coffee or soda. I've noticed that on nights I drink plenty of water, I tend to fell more well rested.
2. If you're a snacker like me try your best to pack healthy snacks. I've tried to pack almonds, cashews, more fresh fruit, yogurt, protein bars or granola bars. I still have my chips or my fruit snacks but I try to make sure i balance it out with a healthy snack option too.
3. Pack your lunch!! I'm not the type to meal prep for the week but thats bc I get tired of leftovers after the 3rd time so I tend to cook extra dinner so that I can have those leftovers for that night shift. I've gotten poked fun at for eating salad at like 3am, yes no one really craves salad at 3am (i crave fast food) but I add some of my favorite toppings such as grilled chicken, feta, or croutons so that I can enjoy it. Plus eating healthy not only helps maintain a healthy weight, it also helps maintain energy levels throughout the night since it doesnt give you an energy rush and crash.
But thats all for now folks, stay tuned for future night shift tips in the future :)

Mary Jane Seacole (1805-1881) British-Jamaican business woman and nurse who set up the "British Hotel" behind the lines during the Crimean War. Born Mary Jane Grant in Kingston, Jamaica, she was the daughter of James Grant, a Scottish Lieutenant in the British Army, and a free Jamaican woman. Her mother was a "doctress", a healer who used traditional Caribbean and African herbal remedies and it was from her that Mary acquired her knowledge of herbal medicine. When the Crimean War broke out, she applied to the War Office to assist but was refused. She travelled independently and set up her hotel and assisted battlefield wounded. She became extremely popular among service personnel, who raised money for her when she faced destitution after the war.
Her work in Crimea was overshadowed by Florence Nightingale's for many years. She has been better remembered in the Caribbean, where significant buildings were named after her in the 1950s and she was posthumously awarded the Jamaican Order of Merit in 1991. By the 21st century Seacole had become a much more prominent figure in the UK and she was voted into first place in an online poll of 100 Great Black Britons in 2004.
Her autobiography, Wonderful Adventures of Mrs. Seacole in Many Lands (1857), is one of the earliest autobiographies of a mixed-race woman, although some aspects of its accuracy have been questioned. Earlier controversy broke out in the United Kingdom late in 2012 over reports of a proposal to remove her from the UK's National Curriculum - this was heavily, and successfully, petitioned against. #amyhoodillustration #illustration #illustrator #illustratorsoninstagram #portrait #pen #penportrait #maryseacole #nurse #businesswoman #art #jamaican #jamaicanwomen #caribbean #womeninhistory #inspirationalwomen #herstory #jamaicanorderofmerit #portraiture #blackhistory

I catch myself hanging my head down low, worrying about grades, time management, if I’m as smart as the student next to me. Thankfully, Chamberlain has the best words of encouragement when your head is laying low to give you confidence and lift your spirits!
Just finished my second Health and Wellness Exam and I’m feeling really confident! Two more weeks and it’s a Christmas Miracle. No school until January! Woo!
It’s my first shift back after 12 glorious days off! It was a perfect break with midterms and thanksgiving during that time (one less stressor off my plate for a short while) But how unfair is it that time off flies by SO FAST and work days just drag on forever!
My three year anniversary with the hospital I work at is only a couple weeks away. I’ve been on night shift ever since. Taking that break off really helped me get in rest and reevaluate the things I need to maintain a healthy sleep schedule 💤
Just finished midterms which means?!?!
Time to start preparing for FINALS that are only THREE weeks away. Yes! THREE WEEKS! Chamberlain is an accelerated BSN program, so it’s important to stay on top of the curriculum and review each day (I won’t lie, I don’t review everyday but I really should) Only thing motivating me at this point is having a small break for the holidays. I can already hear the spiked eggnog yelling my name 🎄
Anyone else preparing for Midterms, writing papers (dreading that turn it in score), and trying to maintain their sanity and social life? This girl is 🙋🏻♀️
Right now, my favorite places to go to zone in and focus are little coffee shops. Especially this little gem on the square.
Just a little introduction of myself..My name is Alyssa and I’m a student nurse at Chamberlain College Of Nursing in Atlanta. I’m a mama to a spunky four year old and I work as a Unit Assistant on an Ortho/Trauma floor. My life is crazy between commuting to school, night shift, and mommin. This is just a way for me to share how I (or don’t) get through it. HA! (life hack: margaritas are the cure to all 😂)
This is my outlet to share the joys and TEARS of nursing school 😭 Let’s inspire, encourage, and pray we don’t reach 2007 Brittany meltdown status! Lol! ROAD TO RN, HERE I COME!
