Do you know what you look like? I know this might sound silly but I was contemplating this today. When I see myself in the photos I take, photos others take of me, of when I am in a group photo, or when I look at myself in the mirror, I seem to look a bit different in all of them. Videos I make for YouTube, my face on the computer screen of a Skype call... which one is the real me? All of them? None of them? A combination of all of the above. The thing is, i like how I look in some of these more than others. Is that wrong? Aren’t they all a version of myself? Or r they just a 2D version of me that could never compare to the 3D reality? Uhmmm.. 🌿 Can you relate?

If you are what you eat, I want to be this delicious unicorn smoothie bowl 🥣🦄 Really getting in the groove lately, intuition wise - I’ve been tuning out all the extra noise, and just letting my body tell me what it wants. For example, today it wanted weights, treadmill sprints, and all the green veggies 🌿💚
To make this smoothie bowl, blend:
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/3 cup of filtered water
1.5 scoops protein powder
1 tbsp ground flax
1 tsp chlorella powder
3/4 cup frozen cauliflower
3 handfuls of frozen spinach
1 handful of frozen kale
1/2 cup frozen raspberries
Topped with coconut shreds, bee pollen (great for post-workout, as it fights inflammation), some more raspberries, and my new favourite product - @pearlbutter
Add red chilli flakes
Season - paprika/garlic/salt/pepper
Add chicken broth
Add shredded chicken (poach and shred)
Taste and season
Add herbs - green onions/cilantro/parsley
I topped with some @spreadem_kitchen
Cashew cheese and pickled red onions that I had leftover from taco night

If you are listening to your body and you are physically hungry vs emotionally hungry, you have every right to eat—-no matter what time it is! (Yes, I understand this may be a difficult concept for some. Please reread this as many times as you need.) .
I’ll add too, even if you do eat a bit out of emotional hunger— anxiety, stress, boredom, loneliness, etc., there’s no need to beat yourself up. Instead, just use the experience as a teaching tool, helping you plan how to sit with the emotion next time and/or use another #copingskill
outside of food.
Let go of any rigid rules you have about waiting until x time to eat or not eating after x time.
Would love for all my dietitian friends to chime in on this! Feel free to comment and shed the light on having permission to eat after dark! .

I’ll take the real thing over anything packaged up with a fancy label (especially when it’s got things I can’t pronounce) every time. Our food system is so complicated and down right confusing today. It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of health claims (that are really false advertising) or the newest diet trend that promises a quick fix. Yup, I do remember a time where all I ate was chicken breasts and salad with no dressing because I assumed fat was the enemy. And man was I bored! If I’ve learned anything over the years it’s that sticking to real, quality ingredients is where it’s at. Nothing complicated, just the simple stuff. Which is always the best - am I right? How about these little beauties? One ingredient can create so many different things. What’s your favourite way to cook with eggs?

To be honest, I spent my last night as a 23 year old crying from feeling stressed & I had to go in at 6:30am/run around the kitchen like a crazy person today.
This bday looked less than ideal, but I feel loved (such a great feeling) and grateful for another year of life.
I am thankful for genuinely nice people, new + old friendships, naps, mini cupcakes/chocolate cake, restaurant week in cville this weekend, & for all of you 🌮 people out there. 💚

Wait. One. Minute.
Can you believe that's what my face looked like at one point? Blue steel? Nope. Magnum? Nope. Shreds because I don't eat enough to balance my caloric expenditure? That's the one.
So yes, there I am, 6 years ago, with low body fat, and low muscle mass.😅 I tried to find a body picture but honestly, they are few and far between.
Today's post: intuitive eating.
Intuitive eating is hot right now. It's the new "optimal" way to live your life in the fitness industry. You've seen me talk about a few of my clients who have transitioned to an intuitive approach, and it's working very well!
But, what if I told you, it's not "optimal" for everybody? What if I told you...it's not even optimal for me?
Before I plunge into that, it's important to realize that even if it is optimal for you, the journey there is not 4 or 6 weeks. A lot of times if you're overweight, intuitive eating is actually what led you to your current destination. So, relearning hunger cues and emotional response patterns is no overnight task.
When I do transition clients to an intuitive or semi-intuitive(I'll explain) lifestyle, it's over the course of months(a lot of them), and I have progressive "steps" in place to make the transition smooth and increase the chances of success. An immediate switch from tracking every macro and micro to simply eating when you're hungry is a bold move to say the least. Chances of success=pretty low.
So, why might intuitive eating not be for you? Why is it not for me?
I under eat. It's as simple as that. In the period this picture was taken, I was a very serious motocross racer, travelling every weekend, and wanting to be the best I could be. Knowing what I know now, I realize just how much I was held back by under eating.
I am about 222lbs right now, and my maintenance is around 3700 cals. Doesn't sound like much, but my caloric expenditure compares to that of a sloth. If I try to eat intuitively, and then track all my food as I hop in bed, I'm usually around 2200-2400 calories. WHAT!! Continued below⬇️

I've talked about dieting being a dirty word here before. People will call what they are doing with regards to food and exercise a million things before calling it a diet. Even people who are working towards becoming an intuitive eater! Then they get to a place where they feel stuck. And it is usually because somewhere in their life they are still doing things or thinking with a diet mindset. Maybe it is still stepping on the scale once a week. Or giving themselves permission to eat chocolate - but only when it is outside the house - having it in the house is a no-no. Or they can have chocolate, so long as it is 80% dark chocolate. Or they want to be an intuitive eater, but they have to get their 5 serves of veg in EVERY DAY. Ditching the diet mentality and unconditional permission to eat all foods are the not-so-secret combo to get off the hamster wheel that is dieting, for good. Feel like you need some help to do that? Come and work with an anti-diet dietitian or intuitive eating counsellor! We love helping people reconnect with their bodies and enjoy eating again 😊
Um, these guys do American Chinese food right. This orange chicken has so many spices in it, green onions, and chunks of ginger, I feel like I'm doing good to my body. I have to meal prep more though because I'm trying not to eat out so much after I workout. The LA Fitness I go to now is further away. The old one had a burst pipe and got flooded. Man, orange chicken is amazing.

There’s a common misconception that when people lose weight through dieting, all of their body-image concerns will be cured. Unfortunately that just isn’t the case. While it’s true that occupying a smaller body can make many aspects of life easier in our fatphobic culture, research and lived experience show that people’s internalized fatphobia doesn’t go away just because they lose weight.
In fact, a lot of people feel really upset when they realize that though they’ve lost all this weight and though the world may be treating them differently, they’re still really unhappy with the body they live in. Or they’re constantly terrified of gaining the weight back, which leads them to adopt disordered behaviors and feel completely out of control with food.
So if we want to help people *truly* feel better about their bodies, we can’t recommend weight loss and dieting. Instead, we need to help them heal their internalized weight stigma. And we need to create a world where people of ALL sizes can appreciate the bodies that they have right now, no matter what size they may be.

suggested two weeks ago! I have all the ingredients but so far have only made 3 of 5 recipes! Last week all five sounded good but this week not so much. This salad was the bomb especially with the @daveskillerbread

I'll be totally 100% honest with you guys (as always) - I haven't been feeling posting much lately 🤷 I don't know why but I think it's something to do with where I'm currently at in my journey of self-love. I feel as if I've stopped pushing myself out of comfort zones which is no bueno 🙅 Self-love is something you need to work on every day, not just every once in a while.
To get myself to grow I neeeeeeed to do things that I'm a little more uncomfortable with - positive self-talk, journaling, public speaking about body positivity and self-love, (I looveeeeeeee it but I can be very hard on myself, I easily convince myself that I'm not "good enough"), go back to working on my DBT skills, making vlogs for my YouTube channel etc.
These things are sososoo important for me and to me but yet I can eaaasily talk myself out of it. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemies 🤦

We’ve been having 2-3 meals per week delivered since September, and it’s been a great experience! There are plenty of plant based and dairy free items, and we’ve gotten out of our recipe rut. I love that they use organic ingredients wherever possible, too. Now they just need to send someone over to cook it and I’ll be really happy 🤣

Another day, another soup!! 🌚😋Tomorrow is already my last day of my first internship rotation with Extension. How the past three weeks went by so fast blows my mind🤷🏽♀️I gained wonderful experience in one of many community dietetic settings. I saw (and got to teach!) several lessons over MyPlate, so I brought out my inner nerd to try to channel those food groups with this soup tonight: 🧡Grains: whole wheat elbow pastas [get your energy, fiber from whole grains and minerals such as zinc, iron and magnesium]
💚Vegetables: I ODed on carrots, broccoli and cauliflower [great source of fiber, vitamins, minerals] 💜Protein: Black beans and great northern beans [great source of fiber, potassium, folate, B vitamins and phytonutrients]
❤️Fruit: not pictured here, but to make a perfect “MyPlate meal,” you could add a clementine, some berries or an apple to the side [loaded with vitamins and antioxidants to keep you healthy during flu season]
💙Dairy: again not pictured (lol sry) drink a glass of milk or have some Greek yogurt for dessert (with berries to get your fruit in that way 💥) [essential for bone development and strength throughout the lifespan]
“Healthy” meals don’t have to be hard! Have fun with it. Get creative. And eat the foods you love! Even if you are weird like me and really feeling the soup game. OWN IT BUTTERCUP

Eventually, I just decided to unplug deliberately up to the point where I even stopped taking pictures and I refrained from using my phone so I can be completely present in the moment. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Доброе утречко ☕️ Вчера вечером шёл небольшой снежок, ветра не было, морозно было правда, но по зимнему уютно. 😌 Хотя если у нас выпадает снег, то это все! На дорогах полный коллапс, вечные пробки .. да и ещё транспорт реже ходит, интересно специально ли они делают так? 🙈 Всера вечером ужинала творогом с кленовым сиропом и яблоком, я впервые пробую настоящий привезённый с Канады кленовый сироп. И скажу это божественно! 😍 По вкусу похож на кофе в перемешку с запахом коры дерева ) Необычно, но вкусно 😋 А ещё заметила вот такой творог с вишней, а так как этой зимой я подсела на все вешневое я не могла это не взять, думаю будет вкусно) За день устаю и для меня так быстро время летит.. уже сегодня и пятница, хотя я чётко помню что происходило в прошлую 😶 как будто это было вчера или час назад 😅 Как для вас идут дни? Быстро или очень медленно?) Ещё я думаю все зависит от активности, которая сопровождает нас на протяжении всего дня )
