"Jaane kaun ghadi me nikle saajan ghar se, main ghungat me jal gai kitne sawaan barse"
If I could recommend only a few of the 90s Bollywood movies to someone, I would most definitely make him or her watch Lamhe! It's such a visually as well as an emotionally satisfying experience.. Even today if you ask a Bollywood heroine the roles that she would want or would have wanted to do from the past, chances are that Lamhe is going to rank quite high in that list! But then, no one can be Sridevi and no one can bring the kind of gravitas that she brought to this film! No wonder Yash Chopra called her his most favourite artist and he actually made her look like the 'Queen of Hearts' in both Chandni and Lamhe! I can honestly watch the video of 'Morni Bagha Ma' countless times just to admire her stunning expressions and her dazzling beauty! She was truly the first superstar female actor of India.. In fact, most of the male actors who worked with her looked like second fiddle, such was her aura.. At the peak of her career, she rejected many film offers, even with Amitabh Bachchan, as she didn't just want to play the typical eye candy roles like the other 80s mainstream heroines! As a matter of fact, I don't even remember any Bollywood male actor from the 80s other than Amitabh Bachchan who was as popular as her! Female actors like Kajol, Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala, Vidya Balan, Rani Mukherjee, Karisma and Kareena Kapoor have often talked about how they looked up to her as the ultimate Bollywood heroine! But then, who wouldn't? After all, there is and there will be no 'devi' in Hindi Cinema like Sridevi! And Lamhe was indeed the finest moment in her glorious cinematic journey!
