- Is food the ultimate drug❓
➡️ Without getting caught up in semantics, food is quite the drug. Our consumption of food is ultimately driven by the primitive reward systems in the human brain. Food affects the brain and body, just like any other drug.
🔑 Food can either be a health promoting medicine (drug) or a harmful and/or addictive drug.
↪️ Most of the top causes of disease and death have an underlying diet/metabolic component to them as a major root cause. How you choose to use food (what you eat, how much you eat, when and why you eat etc.) can literally extend and promote longevity and health, OR it can lead to premature death and slowly erode your health.
➡️ The first step is education. Knowing how to eat and what a healthy diet looks like at a baseline level is essential. BUT that is not enough❗️
➡️ When food takes hold of your brain and reward systems, it now acts like a ‘drug’ that we can’t resist. Education on diet can’t compete with a drug (food) addiction...that’s not how the brain or addiction works.
➡️ Breaking the habit loops and establishing a healthy diet is essential to longevity and wellbeing. Turning food into a medicine is one of the major keys to your health.

The funny thing about this quote? Routine. How many little routines do we all have jam packed into one single day? As a mother I feel we have SO MANY. We prioritized these habits and routine above all for the tiny humans who make us need boats of coffee. 😴 .

We all have habits, we all have choices and a routine even if we think we don’t! If you want to change something, something that will make your life better start by changing one LITTLE habit daily. That’s it. That’s all. Just one little thing and watch yourself change and grow and see what a LITTLE change in your routine can really do for you! .

Let's have a talk about why I hate this #bullshit
meme and why it's problematic.
First of all, both of these people have made it to their 70s and I think that's admirable regardless of how they look. At this age, how they look is undoubtedly the least important thing about them. Think of all the stories and wisdom they must have. I'd love to sit down with them and have a chat over a cup of coffee and learn from them.
More importantly, this meme is ableist. There's nothing wrong with your body or your choices if you do not look like the person on the left. You do not earn age by looking a certain way. And many of us don't have the option of choosing the lifestyle that would give us the physique on the left. Many factors come into play here: mental health, emotional health, financial resources, limits on what your body can do due to a disability or chronic illness/injuries, social supports, etc.
This is not a choice. This is a false dichotomy. Do not let the diet industry think this way. There are many choices in life that are important, but there are also many things you can do for your health and to support longevity that have nothing to do with how you look.
