@kicelandfestival K-Iceland Kizomba Festival Sept 14-16.09, Reykjavik Did you know? Iceland is one of the most geologically active spots on Earth. It sits at the meeting point of the Eurasian and North American continental plates – which are slowly moving apart. The result is some of Iceland’s unique geological features, like the rift at Thingvellir, Geysir, hundreds of waterfalls (two of which – Gullfoss and Dettifoss – are the most powerful in Europe), and near-daily mini-earthquakes. After seeing the beauty of Iceland, you begin to understand why, while only 20% of the Icelandic population says they believe in the existence of elves, 80% say they aren’t willing to rule out the possibility. www.kicelandfestival.com #kiceland #kicelandfestival #kizomba #kizombaiceland #kizombareykjavik #kizomba2018 #kizombalove #kizombafestival #wowair #graylineiceland #cityparkhotelrvk

Chapter 7: Celebrating Change
-
It wasn’t a whole year later until the Gray Line #thebucketlife trip was set back in motion. I’m really grateful that @grayline_sightseeing was kind enough to work with our vacation days and time constraints. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for my sister and I to travel like this together.
-
This trip couldn’t have come at a better time. @Fivestars , my work, was launching the P0 of a brand new spank’n product. We were able to cram a crazy amount of work into 6 months time and a vacation window was finally opening up. My sister and her new husband finally had earned enough vacation days to getaway. - A friend once told me to celebrate change, the good and bad, and I was finally ready to celebrate all the new changes. Susan, my sister, and her husband were planning their trip to Iceland around the same time I had already planned a trip to Europe with my friends. Since stars were aligning in terms of timing, my 2 week trip turned into 1 month, just like that. -

Excursion: Blue Lagoon
This was not a Gray Line tour. Please see my other posts with Gray Line tour excursions. We actually booked this trip through Blue Lagoon directly. It was a great, relaxing spa day after a long day trip. I would recommend going and getting the Comfort Day pass. Random Tip: Don’t get the smoothie, use your free drink on something else. I noticed not a lot of people were enjoying the smoothies. Most of the locals don’t go to Blue Lagoon. It’s more a tourist attraction. Best in the morning and at night. If you are looking for a local Icelandic swimming pool, they are everywhere and much cheaper. That is also a highly recommended experience.

Chapter 6: Kickin’ It Into 3rd Gear - Thankfully, my luck had changed. I was offered a freelance trial period by @Fivestars. I’m really grateful to Sam Odio, VP of Product at Fivestars, who offered me this opportunity. I finally was starting to feel like myself again. The work was fast paced, challenging and I was really enjoying work again. - In 3 months time, I earned a Principle Product Design role and joined Fivestars full-time.

Excursion: Off-roading (Various Trips)
One things I most enjoyed in Iceland was the off-roading expeditions. Most cars in Iceland are 4x4’s because a lot of roads to sights require going through dirt roads and unpaved trails. These are some of the really cool vehicles (in addition to the comfy Gray Line buses) we got to ride in, a cute jeep and a retired nuclear weapons military vehicle. All of the Gray Line buses and their partners were very friendly, fun, and informative on our trips.

Chapter 5: Game on - Finding a job after falling flat on your face was hard AF. Countless interviews trying to spin failure as valuable experience. Going out to sell yourself when you feel like complete garbage. Door after door slamming on your face. - Nothing was working and I realised I needed to step up my game. When I was freelancing, I didn’t have to worry about the next job because I had done it for so long that the work would just come to me. I realised I was asleep at the wheel and needed to refine my pitch. The tech landscape in New York is very different than San Francisco, especially between creative agencies and tech start ups, and I needed to pay closer attention to how people talked about their work, their processes, and what they valued most in the work they do. It was similar to traveling to a different country. It’s just much easier to connect with someone when you speak the same language. - To be continued…👩🏻‍💻 - Excursion: GLACIER WALK Highly Recommend We hiked on Vatnajokull glacier. It was amazing. It looks like a foreign land from a sci-fi movie. Breath taking and strange at the same time. Walking on hard ice was a interesting sensation and touching the ash that settled on to of these jaggedy ice peaks was surprising as well. I also got to taste glacier water. That was so cool! Difficulty level is medium. I would be a little worried to bring small children and I wouldn’t recommend for elderly people because it can be slippery. We did have a senior woman in our group and she did great, so use your best judgement. Overall, I felt safe because we had a great guide and they provided hiking equipment. - What to bring: Hiking boots (highly recommend) Light Jacket Water resistant pants (No jeans) - Provided: Ice grips, harness, ice pick, helmet, and certified guide - #thebucketlife  #grayline  #sweepstakes #graylineiceland  @graylineiceland @grayline_sightseeing #designlife #techie #techbaddie #designlifestyle #digitalnomad #iceland #icelandtravel
Chapter 4: The Dark Place
- Susan didn’t have any vacation days to take off work for an adventure, so the trip was put on hold. Possibly indefinitely. We weren’t sure what would happen. The timing wasn’t right. With that, we moved on.
-
In 2017, I finally threw in the towel with Concourse. My business wasn’t going anywhere and I was devastated. Sorry to get emotional in this post, but the truth was I regressed into severe depression. I stopped getting physical exercise and going to dance. Gained a lot of weight. I didn’t want to hang out with friends. I didn’t want to get out of bed for 2 months. I’m pretty sure I even pretended that I had somewhere to be/do when my boyfriend would leave for work to only crawl back into bed. I was so disappointed in myself. I failed and there was no back up plan. I know this is going to sound strange, but it felt like someone had died because it was all I thought about for 2 1/2 years and suddenly it was all gone.
- If any one else has experienced this feeling, I know IT SUCKS. You aren’t alone. With time though, it will get better. In hindsight, I would have recovered faster if I let more people in and didn’t directly link my self-worth to my work. It was something that I did, it didn’t work out, and the next step was to move on to the next thing. - To be continued…👩🏻‍💻

Excursion: South Coast & Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon (2 day trip)
I recommend splitting up the 14 hour excursion into a two day trip. It breaks up the driving and you get more time in the countryside. It’s a lot of driving for 1 day. This is our lodging at Guesthouse Gerði after visiting the Lagoon. We opted in for the boat tour. Then, next day plans, we are going on a glacier hike. Guesthouse Geroi was a comfortable stay, staff was friendly, dinner was yummy, drinks were poured generously. Overall, very happy we stayed here. -
You will need:  Sneakers Light Jacket Pack a lunch or get food at the pit stop along the way.

Feeling like Dora. I swear this island has every possible landscape you can imagine. Truly a place of 🔥x❄️! During the last couple of days we went from chasing waterfalls and ice glaciers to bubbling hot geysers. You cannot resist the backdrop for photo ops. Swipe for shameless photos of me almost everywhere we went! 😩🤣 Mom got some great shots of your girl. #sammytheexplorer #iceland #letourist #beautyonearth #findareasontogo #graylineiceland #layersonlayers #raincoatessential #notafilterneeded #whereaboutsofsammyd
Chapter 3: Wedding Gift Fiasco
-
As we were preparing for my sister Susan’s wedding last year, I decided that I wanted to give the trip to my sister and her husband, Kenny, as a wedding gift. At first, Susan didn’t want to go. My sister was super skeptical about the whole situation. It took a lot of convincing that everything will be ok. I mean, what could possibly go wrong? 😂 Lol I have a lot of funny memories of my sister and I calling around playing detective 🧐🤫👀, trying to figure out if this was all a big scam. What would you do in this situation? -

Chapter 2: Illiterate Entry -
I received an e-mail from Gray Line saying that they were touched by my entry and wanted to speak with me. They said they tried to reach out to my sister, but that they couldn’t get in touch with her because she probably wouldn’t be looking for an email from them. Which was true, I hadn’t even told my sister I nominated her. It had a been a while since I had entered and I had completely forgotten what I wrote. To my embarrassment, I realized I didn’t even proofread my entry. *Facepalm, it was so bad. Cringe. 😬 What can I say? It was past midnight. Lol - "She deserves it because she lives tirelessly as an writer. Her passion for writing is on wavering, which is admirable. However, she never has the money to travel like she would want to. I would really like to see her take some time to really see the world." - - To be continued…👩🏻‍💻 - Excursion: South Coast & Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon (2 day trip) -

Chapter 1: Beating a dead horse...I mean dream Last year, I was sitting in front of my computer on my comfy couch at home, trying to decide what to do with Concourse. Concourse was my baby, my muse, my dream job, my whole world. With blood, sweat, and tears (many, many tears) I had built my dream P2P platform where creatives could find the space they needed artistically and professionally. I pored myself into my work and did everything I knew how to move Concourse forward. There were people using the site, who even listed their space, but no dice. "It never took off" would be an overstatement. The engine wasn't even on at this point. I had been weighed down by my lack of experience in business management, bootstrapping this experiment, and I wasn't successful at rallying the necessary people to help me tackle all the work that needed to be done. Extremely bogged down with deciding if I should continue trudging along or turn in the towel, I gave myself a break and do what I sometimes do when I'm stuck in front of computer with time to kill. I looked around for sweepstakes to enter. My mindless hobby introduced me to Gray Line and their Bucket List sweepstakes. To be continued...👩🏻‍💻 - 👏Excursion: Gray Line Inside the Glacier👏 Highly recommend. Great for all ages. Bring snow pants so you don’t get wet or cold.
