One of the trademarks of Route 66 in the west are the trading posts. Sadly, however, many are no longer in business, abandoned and in serious disrepair, or completely gone, as is also the scenario with many of the original businesses along old Route 66, sad to say.
Thankfully, this is not the case for the Jack Rabbit Trading Post in Joseph City, Arizona which celebrates its 70th Anniversary this year. This, I am proud to say, is still a friendly family owned business where you are greeted by a friendly smile, and if you so desire, a pleasant conversation with folks who know the old highway well.
Of course, there are PLENTY of great gifts and souvenirs to choose from and a great little museum room to check out where you are greeted by, none other than, James Dean! Don't forget to get your own personalized Jack Rabbit mileage sign which is a token memorabilia of the old billboard signs that once graced the roadway telling travelers just how far they had to go to arrive there. And, don't forget to top off your visit with a bottle of Route 66 Root Beer, something I did years ago when I stopped in at the Jack Rabbit Trading Post on my walking journey on Route 66!
This is the second photo collage that I have done for a Route 66 business since I began the "Van on 66" journey and I am looking forward to doing more. If you are a Route 66 business that is interested in me doing one for you, or you know of one that may be, please feel free to message me via my "Van on 66" Facebook Community page.
