To the girls who are constantly stressing out and trying to get “event ready”: I’ve been there! I felt like I was always “trying to get ready” for an event: a wedding, a work function, a holiday, a girls trip, etc.... When did you decide that enough was enough and that you just wanted to be comfortable in your own skin and live your life?! Mine was almost 2 years ago and I haven’t looked back since. I was tired of killing myself for an event, and then gaining every ounce back the day after. I was tired of being controlled by events. I was tired of never feeling “good” in every day life. I know everyone’s like bro G that’s obvious, but for the sake of the post it’s so important to know when your body is hungry or just needs good ol H2O - Snack on low calorie foods (ex. Carrots, celery, cucumber, tomatoes, and apples) - Find something to do! Being active can take your mind off of food and the cravings will go away
- When you crave something unhealthy either find a healthy alternative or eat in moderation (comment if you want a post about healthy alternatives😊) - If you are traveling or just going somewhere, make a snap box before. These can contain fruits, veggies, granola bars, PEANUT BUTTER, or any of your favorite healthy foods! .

Mind-Body Optimization | Week 29: Aesthetics vs Functionality | Post 2: Supple Scientist Stimulation
Lately, I have started thinking more about what kind of movement patterns I perform on a daily basis such as walking, running, jumping, lifting, bending, sitting, and standing. What do all of these movement patterns have in common? They all require the use of my whole body. So the more I understand how to use my whole body during these movements the more efficient and easier they become. Shouldn't that be the purpose of going to the gym? Why would I do Bicept Curls (see video above) when that aesthetic exercise is only focused on one muscle group?
I wouldn't because I understand the trap of training for the sole purpose of aesthetics. To make this really easy to understand, the more isolated the exercise, the less functional it will be and the more likely I will develop muscle imbalances.
Why? Let me use the example of a gymnast. Gymnasts are the strongest and most well rounded athletes in the world and because of this they have the best physiques and are athletic enough to play almost any sport. Why? All of their training is centered around exercises and movements where they have to recruit their full body and therefore they develop proportional musculature and strength. You will never see a gymnast perform Bicept Curls. Here is a fun little test to see how functional you really are. Can you sit down and stand up without using any part of your body to help you (see video above)
These days, it's funny to see all this hype around Calisthenics when it's really just glorified Gymnastics. Never the less, that is direction I am going in. What are some good functional based exercises? How can I get the most out of these exercises? Stay tuned for Friday.
