"Foresta Della Lama", Foreste Casentinesi, Italy
Defined as "sharp edged object" (such as a knife or a sword), the word "lama" refers to the sharp reflections on the water stream of "Fosso della Lama". This name everything refers to in this zone is the epithet of a great plain of grass that extends at the feet of three altures: "Poggio Fonte Murata", "Poggio Cornacchia" and "Monte Penna", as it is surrounded, it feels like the grassland is cut out from the rest of the world. It is not rare to encounter animals such as boars or deers, expecially in the last or first hours of light.
The park of the Foreste Casentinesi is placed on the boundary between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, these forests represent one of the greatest woodland ecosystems in Tuscany and home to a great amount of fauna, such as wolves, foxes, wild cats, boars, deers, squirrels and a small population of non-originary raccoons, furthermore counting an incredible amount of birds. Flora is various and well-conserved. The great expanse of beech trees is typical to this zone, sometimes overlapped to white spruces. Wide grasslands also cover the surface of the park, naturally in the highest biomes.
When Autumn comes, these woods deliver a magnificent example of "foliage", one of the most beautiful in the whole peninsula.
