While it is now a restaurant in the Fullerton Bay Hotel famed for its heritage dishes and afternoon tea, the Clifford Pier once played a very different role in Singapore’s history. ⠀
The Clifford Pier was built between 1927 to 1933, and was built to replace the nearby Johnston Pier which had become inadequate in serving the increased sea traffic at that time. ⠀
It is also known as the Red Lantern Pier as a pair of red lanterns hung at the end of the Pier to serve as a warning to incoming sea vessels. ⠀
The Clifford Pier was the landing point for most early immigrants who traversed the high seas to get to Singapore. There was much hustle and bustle at its grounds as there was a constant stream of merchants entering and leaving. ⠀
Later, amidst the chaos of the Japanese Occupation, this was also where evacuees got onto sea vessels and tried to flee the country. ⠀
Bright Lights in Suburbia: The Search For Clarity
“To better understand God we must first shatter our own idea of God - maybe even day after day. Maybe he's too great to stay compressed in the human mind. Maybe he splits it wide open; this is why pretentious intellectualism so often fails to comprehend the concept of God: it is only accepting of what it can explain while in the process finding higher sources offensive. What we may confidently assert is that faith is the opening that allows God, this unpredictable, unseen power, to travel in and out of the mind without all the pains of confusion.” .

Pretty little C H I N A T O W N shophouses in Autumn🍁 The countdown is on for my precious sister to arrive and I’m feeling all the things 🙃 Grateful for this opportunity and the friendships it is cultivating, in awe of the colours and contrasts this wonderful city showcases, and weepy at the chance to share it all, if only for a few days, with a woman who carries my heart in her heart 💗 I’ll just leave these pretty windows here while I go grab the tissues 🤧 Sidenote: despite the colourful lanterns and the signs everywhere saying “mid autumn festival” there is nothing to suggest that winter is coming ☃️🙅🏻♀️ I won’t be curling up by the fire ANYTIME soon and I’m still not sure how I feel about it...... 😳
