The Crown is one of my all time favourite programmes, an interesting, amazing dramatization of the life of Queen Elizabeth II. From the marriage of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, to the death of George VI and the ascension of Elizabeth. Royal tours, the Coronation, political crises, Winston Churchill's leadership and resignation. Just some of the subjects in this fantastic drama series. It feels like an exclusive behind the scenes look at the Royal Family, understanding what the Queen has been through and how it has shaped the great woman she has become. Claire Foy was the absolutely perfect choice for the role, she is AMAZING and has turned into one of my favourite actresses ever. Similarly, Matt Smith is fantastic as Prince Philip and really captures his essence. John Lithgow may as well be Winston Churchill if I didn't know any better. The best depiction of him I have ever seen (except maybe Gary Oldman). The Supporting cast is also fantastic, Vanessa Kirby, Victoria Hamilton, Jared Harris, Peter Jennings just to name a few. My favourite episode is entitled Pride & Joy. I love how it has 3 story lines, the tour undertaken by the Queen and Prince Philip, Princess Margaret taking on the Queen's duties, and the Queen Mother getting away from it all in Scotland. It shows the strain of the job for everyone. I love Victoria Hamilton in this episode, so emotive. I love how the man she buys the castle off has no idea who she is. Best moment of the series. Vanessa Kirby was a revelation, showing such emotion, and I feel so sorry for Margaret. It is an amazing series, that thoroughly deserved all the awards it has won, and more.
