Stuck on choreo? Here’s a simple exercise:
1 ) Map out the moves that you like.
2 ) Using the following questions, narrow down your move list:
"Am I showing a variety of shapes or does everything look similar?" "Am I showing both small scale and large scale movements?"
"Am I using the full height of the pole as well as getting low to the floor?"
"Am using a variety of climbs/inverts each time i go up the pole?" 3. Focus on having less moves, and performing them brilliantly, rather than cramming in a bunch of things. 4. After listening to your music, set your favorite moves as anchor points at certain times in the music. Choreograph your transitions around the anchor points.
Use the pole!
Use the entire pole height, and stage space! There are lots of places to play, so make sure your piece take up the whole stage.
It’s helpful for your audience if there is a storyline, character, emotion or concept to follow. Keep in mind that you are dancing with poles. What part do the poles play in your piece? ・・・
