Body image is a touchy subject for most people and it’s a pretty common feeling to have struggled with body image and self confidence at least once in your life time - therefore, I think pretty much everyone who reads this will benefit somehow from these words, whether it resonates or not.
I’ve always struggled with self confidence issues and there has never been a day in my life where I haven’t looked in the mirror and picked myself apart at least once. You could say in some cases that I have been obsessed with my appearance, what others think of me and how I look. I’ve never been confident enough to leave the house without makeup, in fact if you counted up the days I have spent with no make up on you probably wouldn’t get passed double figures. I hate the way I look naturally and there are a million things I would change before I ever paid myself a complement. This will sound all too familiar for many people, not just females but certainly males aswell and I think we can all agree that one factor which we can blame for 70% of our generations’ insecurities is the dreaded social media.
Lately, I’ve been focusing a lot on my body image and self perception and have started taking actions to cleanse my social media use and refresh my mind set to begin to love myself, after a major set back the past year or so which has left me leaving potentially the most unconfident I have ever felt in my life. I’ve put weight on due to a change in lifestyle and health, I suddenly developed acne at 22 years old from internal stress and there has been days where I couldn’t bare to even look in the mirror.

Meet Chelsea! 👋 She is a self-love queen! 👸
As well as a mom, a registered nurse, and a creator that promotes health, happiness, and self-love. Chelsea is known for her instagram account @choosingchelsea
, where she openly talks about her past and the struggles she had with her self-esteem and body image. Now she has transformed her life from self-hatred into becoming a self-loving queen, and she wants to empower other resilient ladies to do the same.
Find out the advice she gives to anyone that is struggling with self-love. You can read this interview on the blog (link in bio, under “resilient ladies”) ⬆️
The average American woman now wears a size 16-18. Knowing that the average woman wears a size that is not routinely available in stores is powerful information. We can ask: "Why is it that most clothing lines are still choosing not to cater to the most common size in the country?"
💬 "Plus-size patterns need to be different than straight-size patterns and we don't have the resources to do both." Then why aren't you prioritizing the patterns that cater to the most people? Surely that's where the money is? Not following the money implies fatphobia is at the root of this.
💬 "It's haaaaaaard to make plus-sized patterns!" We can put a fucking man on the moon but we can't figure out how to clothe fat people? I am NOT buying this. It is 2019. FIGURE IT OUT. AND START GETTING FASHION SCHOOLS TO TEACH PLUS-SIZE PATTERN-MAKING! Again, your fatphobia is showing.
💬 "Fat people don't buy clothes." If we haven't bought clothes in the past, it's because there's only been terrible options available. We are here and we want to buy from you. CAN YOU HEAR US BEGGING?
💬 "I just don't want fat people buying these clothes." This explicit fatphobia is the truth more often than not. And these brands should be boycotted by straight-sized people and/or our straight-sized allies should speak up to these brands about their lack of size inclusivity.
[Nerdy site note: I've always wanted to do research to see the size distribution flowing out from this average. Is it roughly a "normal" distribution, where size 20 and 14 are slightly less common, then 22 and 12 are even less common, etc.? Is it "bimodal" in some way, where there's a peak of people at size 18 and another at, say, size 22?
I found anthropometric data on this but I'm not skilled in stats software and couldn't process it. If you're good at R or SPSS and want a project, lemme know and I can dig out the data for you again.]
Challenge You Monday!!!!
Here is your challenge for this week. Write something about your body and what it means to you
How do you do this?
1. Do something to get in the mood to write - go for a walk, journal, call someone up who you can have a deep conversation with
2. Create a creative environment- light candles, meditate or do something where you connect to your body like yoga or having a shower
3. Remember there are no rules - you can rhyme or not, have a structure or not, make it short or long. No one else with see this so let your feelings out in whatever way feels good to you
4. Think about your body- what makes your body- yours? What makes your body like everyone else’s? What do you love? What do you hate? How does your body feel? .

How often have you seen a picture of yourself and just torn yourself to pieces ... criticising your hair, arms, tummy, thighs, skin.... If you had a friend and you told her everyday
That she was too fat, that her thighs were too big, that her stomach needed to be more flat... if you had a friend and you were angry at her most of the time
For not having smaller hips, for not having smaller curves, for having hair that was too fine
If you had a friend and you only ever criticised how she looked
Telling her she wasn’t good enough, telling her that her body was shameful, treating her with disgust... Do you think she would feel good? Would she even want you in your life? Would you allow yourself to treat someone else this way? Would you think you were being kind?
So why then are you talking to yourself this way? Why do you cricticise yourself so much? Why are you being so unkind?
It was mental health awareness week last week and the theme was body image. So many people I work with - even healthy, beautiful women - are unhappy with their size/weight/wrinkles/skin etc ... yet most people are far too harsh on themselves. They are trying to live up to unrealistically high standards. In this air-brushed world - we can feel a lot of pressure to be perfect! Yet remind yourself that by beating yourself up and criticising yourself so much - you are hurting nobody other than you ... and you are so much more than just your shape/body/weight... you are creative, intelligent, fun,
curious, talented, caring, generous... and so many other wonderful things #mentalhealthmonth #mentalhealthawarenessweek

Believe it or not, you get to decide how you feel about how you show up.
I know that, at times, that feels impossible. There are unrealistic expectations around every corner about who we're supposed to be and what that looks like.
But these expectations only have power if we give them power. They're only true for us if we assume that they must be true for us.
We choose what to give power to, what's true for us, and what we focus on and why when we get dressed every day.
We can focus on trying to hide our problems areas, disguising our shape, and playing it safe with a daily uniform that we know isn't exactly what we love.
Or we can focus on expressing who we are. Being that fun-loving ray of sunshine, that kind-hearted and equally sarcastic brainiac, or that logical and organized family gal.
You get to choose where you put your focus, and where you put your focus will determine how you feel about how you show up.
Choose what makes you feel about yourself how those who love you most feel about you.

When I was 14, I experienced a trauma that changed the course of my life.
I subsequently struggled with an eating disorder for twenty years. I thought I could never change. I thought I had ruined my kids, my marriage, myself.
And then, when I finally decided to embrace the recovery process, it took me 6 years to get my 6 month chip.
But this month, I’m going to get my 4 year coin. Change is always possible.
Because the sun has risen. The Son IS risen. And we can try again.
It’s crazy how you can have a great life (relationship, family, career, home, travel, etc...), yet, you take one photo and you have a million doubts of your self worth and you completely miss out on all the greatness around you.
Body image is a $&:;! and it’s a daily fight. But, it’s a battle that’s never worth giving up.
Some day, I will be able to snap a picture and truly enjoy it for its beauty vs. the size of my thighs 🙄
I know I’m not the only person that struggles with this, so just know if you’re struggling ... you’re not alone 😘
Who says you need to be skinnier?
Who said you had to change your body shape or size? Why?
Really ask yourself why do you feel the need to lose weight? Is it to feel happier? To feel prettier? To feel more worthy?
Because that’s all a lie. I promise you weight loss doesn’t fix those things. Weight loss doesn’t create those feelings.
Weight loss is like trying to fill up a cup with a large hole in the bottom. You will never reach the point of fullness or completion.
There will always be more you have to go, something else to reach, more weight to lose or another part of you to change if that is the way your trying to achieve those feelings!! To find love you have to look within first.
To feel worthy you have to look within and decide your worth.
To feel beauty you have to unlearn what beauty isn’t.
To feel anything you first have to look within and find it in yourself first.

RAW IMAGE! I’m 25 next week & still get breakouts 🤦🏽♀️ which have left this scarring 😅 despite all the airbrushed skin we see on social media, breakouts are 100% NORMAL & COMMON.
However, I used to have a lot more breakouts, scarring & other skin issues like dark circles under my eyes. All of which left me with 0 confidence in my skin. I wouldn’t dare ever leave the house without a thick layer of foundation! 😅
I hated my skin so much that I decided to booked a consultation with @imagebylaser
. They assessed my skin & tailored a plan of treatments & skin care to address all my concerns. I have been their client for 2 years now!!🙏🏽
The major differences I have experienced are:
- Dark freckles have have faded & disappeared
- Breakouts have reduced
- Dark circles under my eyes have DISAPPEARED
- Acne scarring has reduced
Now I literally don’t use foundation or powder unless I’m going to a photo shoot. If I’m going out, I’ll put a little concealer over these marks but that’s it! Although I clearly still have these flaws - I’m so happy with my skin I could cry ❤️😍❤️
Before I get key board warriors throwing shade for promoting beauty services, I must say ➡️ LADIES, you’re beautiful exactly the way you are!!! You do not need to change a single thing about you. This is just my experience and what makes ME feel more confident ❤️ #empowerourwomentoday #youknowme

Engineering a version of you that you believe is acceptable by other people is a crippling way to show up in this world.
If everything you do/say or be in this world is always from that place, that's where the disconnection lies.
Because you care more about what other people think or say about you or how you are perceived then how you feel about yourself.
Altering yourself for external acceptance is one part of the engineering process we do in order to feel safe enough to show up in this world.
This will never lead to happiness, confidence, inner peace and the list goes on, and here's the reason why!
If your self acceptance is based on other people accepting you the moment they don't your self acceptance is dissipated. Not only that but your true authentic self never really comes to the surface unless you fully trust a person which again is all about other people. There's more that goes into this web but for now you get the picture.
So what about you?
What about how you want to show up for YOURSELF?
If we were to strip away the idea of other people for a second and there was only you on this planet how would you show up?
If you'd show up the same and you're self acceptance and self love is coming from within you then keep on delving deep into you following your path!!! If you aren't it's not a bad thing, this is awareness about yourself which is so fucking valuable and this gives you the opportunity to step back into your power and ask yourself sometimes the tough questions so you can PULL more of yourself out and live from the inside out instead of the outside in.
I am not here to say either journey is sunshine and rainbows because life is an experience a journey and anyway you take it is up to you ♥️ I am simply reminding anyone who needs to hear it today to let that inner you out by letting go of always worrying about how you're percieved by other people 😍
This journey doesn't happen overnight but each step you take you feel more yourself then you ever have before and that's such a gift to give yourself.
Love who you are and your body because that's where the magic happens!!

My friend reccomended me this @cookieandkate
banana bread recipe and jeeez, the softest, most moist loaf I have ever had. Banana bread is also one of my biggest weak spots, tied with ice cream and cookies. Below are the deets😜
⭐⅓ cup melted coconut oil or extra-virgin olive oil
⭐½ cup honey or maple syrup
⭐1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2 ½ medium or 2 large bananas)
⭐¼ cup milk of choice or water
⭐1 teaspoon baking soda (NOT baking powder)
⭐1 teaspoon vanilla extract
⭐½ teaspoon salt
⭐½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more to swirl on top
⭐1 ¾ cups white whole wheat flour or regular whole wheat flour (I tried oat flour as a friend recommended the 1st time on the recipe, kept the banana bread moist!)
⭐Totally optional: ½ cup mix-ins like chopped walnuts or pecans, chocolate chips, raisins, chopped dried fruit, fresh banana slices…
1. Preheat oven to 325°
2. Mix the oil, honey/syrup, and eggs together in a bowl, then add the mashed bananas and milk/water
4. Add all of the dry ingredients to the same bowl and mix well
5. Cook for 50-70 minutes (Mine took closer to 1.5 hours tbh)
6. Once it is done cooking, let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes
7. Remove the loaf from the pan and let it cool on a rack for 15-20 minutes
Let me know how this turns out if you try it! 🤤
What is self love? 💖
Self love is accepting that you, as a whole person, are enough. It's knowing that you are not your body, that you are so much more than that. 💫That your body is simply the shell that houses and holds your magic 💫
It took me a long time to figure that out. I'd look at the rolls on my tummy, the squishy bits under my arms, the lines on my forehead and i'd feel inadequate. I'd feel like if I could just fix those things I'd be okay, I'd be enough, I'd be better. But the truth is those are just parts of my body, they don't take away from all the other amazing things that I am. The things that make me me. 💖
I'm a loud, erratic libra who loves dancing in the kitchen and drinks too much coffee. That's me. Not the tummy rolls, not the forehead lines, not the exterior appearance. 💖
If you can learn to accept the you on the inside, get to know her and love her with all your being than it won't matter to you what the outside looks like 💖
«This is me, Janina, showing my body hair in what some may consider a kinky pose but guess what—it might be that
1. I am posing like this just for the simple pleasure of celebrating myself having no interest at all of what you think of it
2. Nudity is absolutely normal to me, it's my choice, my freedom, and not intentionally sexual
3. I don't care the slightest about your fantasies or your opinion of my physical appearance, if I have not explicitly asked for it.
I have been cat called countless times, honked at, whistled after, screamed at — and guess what. It never felt flattering. It was always annoying & felt threatening.
I run an Instagram account on which I share my thoughts, my opinions, my experiences, teachings & practices. Yet many men seem to think my pictures exist for their sexual pleasure.
Every man who grabbed me by the butt received an instant punch in the face. I would still handle it like this these days.
I am wondering what men on the internet need to hear, to learn how to not act like idiots. Punches? Vulnerable messages?
Want to learn how to approach women appropriately? Pay me money and I teach you 😴. You get one advice for free: Women do not principally exist for your sexual pleasure. If you want to drool at someone, fucking ask if they want to be drooled at.
Online, offline, everywhere.
Thanks for listening. Have nice Sunday.» — @the.wild.core
I've been wanting to try my hand at collage art. As I was flipping through magazines, doing little projects in my "Rip It, Write it, Draw It" journal and vision board, i came across an article in my church magazine about the struggles even members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (I'm LDS) have with body image positivity. A majority of people struggle with it... And even my hubby (who looks like he has barely an ounce of fat on him) worries about it. And I did too... For a very long time. And at times, I still catch myself worrying if I'm too fat or I need to go back on some diet or whatever. So i created this piece as a reminder to just love your body, where you are, right now. It's beautiful and strong. And whatever your goals are... Go for them! But enjoy your beautiful YOU, in the moment. You are a precious gift from God, and he gave you this body as a temple to learn and grow, and to appreciate all the wonders around you. Learn to love the magnificent temple you came housed in. Positive Mind, body, and soul.
