Performance Mindset vs Practise Mindset:
Actors have two Mindsets, the Practise Mindset and the Performance Mindset.
Practise: This Mindset lights up the front of the brain, the Cerebral Cortex. The Practise Mindset is analytical, it’s evaluative, it is conscious of technique and gauges the result. It’s thinking, it’s focused on improvement, it’s deeply in our own head. It asks “how am I doing?” It’s perfectly suited to practise, training and preparing. Most of the time we need to practise a skill thousands of times before we can switch off our conscious control of it.
Performance: This Mindset lights up the Cerebellum at the back of the brain. The Performance Mindset is active, instinctive, unconscious, rooted in the present, responds to the moment, and acts now. This mindset requires the actor to trust in what they have already practised and prepared. It is perfect for auditions and performances.
Science tells us through brain scans that problems start when the wrong bit of the brain is active at the wrong time. In other words, when our Analytical mind is active when it should be quiet (when we are performing) or our Instinctive brain is active when it should be consciously trying to evaluate and learn. One of the reasons we fail in auditions is we that we aren’t fully prepared to make the switch from Practise to Performance Mindset.
Learning how to switch between the two mindsets is just one of the advantages we give our clients and students. We turned to sports and performance psychology to learn how they overcome pressure and self sabotage. And we’ve been seeing the results ever since.

Day two of filming Everly
I asked the technicians to give me Richard Madden, Ian Somerhalder or Ryan Gosling (or better yet all 3!) in place of this green man. But even they couldn’t pull it off... *sigh* Co-star dreams ✨
The playground! What is my life?! ✨
Sometimes I cannot believe how insanely lucky I am to get to have the experiences that I do!
One thing I have learned over the years is that everything is terrifying and intimidating before you take that very first step. I still can’t sleep the night before any film or photoshoot! Once you’re there, however, it’s never as bad as you imagined! On the contrary, it exceeds all expectations, and it is always heartbreaking to leave the incredible people that you have had a chance to work and create with. Then it’s onto the next film or project, to meet and collaborate with your new family. It’s a beautiful process, and I truly love it all so very much! Even the rejection, and trust me, there is PLENTY in this industry. It just steers you towards what you are meant for. ❤️❤️❤️
Here’s a little sneak peak at one of the coolest experiences I’ve had with film to date! I got cast as a lead character in a motion capture film!!! More to come.
