It doesn’t feel good to lose, especially to the Saints who seem to always have our number. But it’s hard to be disappointed after a magical 2017-season playoff run, our first-ever Super Bowl win ‼️and, despite multiple injuries to key players, a surprise return to the playoffs this year.
Nick Foles will not be on the team next season; it’s all but guaranteed. And yet, I’m so filled with gratitude in this moment. This man inspired football fans and non-fans alike with his grit and humility. After more than half a century, Nick Foles led the Eagles team that delivered the first Lombardi trophy to Philadelphia, a long-suffering, die-hard fanbase. The familiar angst of waiting for another season to roll around to make the next one “our year” isn’t there. The edge isn’t gone, but the feeling of futility is.
After winning Super Bowl MVP honors last year, Nick delivered a speech that touched on failure. He famously said, “If something's going on in your life and you're struggling, embrace it, because you're growing." The 2017 Eagles were a team of destiny led by a backup quarterback who seriously contemplated leaving the league a short time ago. I could not be more grateful for St. Nick, Nicky 6, BDN — one of the best stories EVER in professional sports. And I (still!) can’t believe Philly was lucky enough to call it — and Foles — our own.
