** #onthisday in 1549, Thomas Seymour, Lord High Admiral and 1st Baron Seymour of Sudeley, was caught trying to break into his nephew King Edward VI apartments at Hampton Court Palace. . . He entered through the privy garden (roughly on the site of where William and Mary's Privy Garden is today pictured right), and awoke one of the King's pet spaniels. . . In response to the dog's barking, he shot and killed it. . . He was immediately arrested and sent to the Tower of London. . . He was also accused of plotting to marry the 15-year-old Lady Elizabeth, and therefore become Lord Protector instead of his brother. . . It was also suspected that was plotting to kidnap the King to marry him to Lady Jane Grey. . . #thomasseymour #edwardvi #ladyjanegrey #elizabethi #janeseymour #henryviii #anneboleyn #anneboleynsociety #hamptoncourtpalace #toweroflondon #history #tudors #16thcentury #england

This painting is known as 'The Coronation portrait', and shows Queen Elizabeth I crowned, wearing the cloth of gold that she wore at her coronation #OnThisDay January 15, 1559 @westminsterabbeylondon. ⠀ ⠀ The daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth came to the throne on the death of her half-sister, Mary I. Her long reign, beginning in 1558, saw the secure establishment of the Church of England.⠀ ⠀ In the portrait Queen Elizabeth I holds the orb and sceptre, symbols of her authority. Painted around 1600, this work is presumably a copy of a lost original from circa 1559.⠀ ⠀ Image credit: Queen Elizabeth I by Unknown English artist circa 1600 © National Portrait Gallery, London. Explored the childhood home of Anne Boleyn
OTD in 1559, 25 year old Princess Elizabeth Tudor was crowned the Queen of England at Westminster Abbey, making her Queen Elizabeth I👑 Elizabeth was the last Tudor monarch, and daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. Henry was desperate for a male heir, the savior of England, which he thought Anne would provide him with. When she didn’t do so, he had her executed when Elizabeth was almost three years old. The sad thing is, Anne did provide Henry with the savior of England, and the strong ruler he so desired to replace him, but it was Elizabeth. She did more than any male heir could have ever dreamed of. Her reign is known as the Golden Age of England⚜️ #queenelizabeth #queenelizabethi #coronationday #otd #history #1559 #tudor #tudors #thetudors #tudordynasty #goldenage #queen #anneboleyn #henryviii #kinghenryviii #godsavethequeen #16thcentury #1500s

Of course, #ChristinaCrew night would not be complete without Queen @cmodestou , who, as always, absolutely owned the stage as Anne Boleyn. I was in absolute stitches, your comic timing and facial expressions were so on point, your singing (or rapping) was just beyond and I could not stop watching you during all the dances. It was a pleasure seeing you up there, and thank you for popping out in your ridiculously short break! ☺️ #sixthemusical #HenryVIII #wives #AnneBoleyn #Arts #theatre #London #WestEnd #Queen #DivorcedBeheadedLive

On this day, January 15th, 1559, Elizabeth Tudor, Anne Boleyn's illegitimate daughter, was crowned Queen of England. She ascended to the throne, after the death of her half sister, Mary I. Elizabeth I would go on to rule for 45 tumultuous years, rising above the initial disappointment of her gender, proving that a woman, could be an effective monarch. • • • #tudors #uk #england #british #history #britain #elizabethi #queenelizabeth #anneboleyn #henryviii
Mary Queen of Scots silver necklace. This beautiful Sterling Silver Necklace is inspired by Mary, Queen of Scots. The design features the Thistle of Scotland and the Rose of England, surmounted by Mary's Royal Crown. Around the pendant embossed are the words 'In My End Is My Beginning'. ** Following the coronation ceremony came the lavish coronation banquet at Westminster Hall (pictured bottom right). . . This lasted from three o'clock in the afternoon until one o'clock the next morning. . . The Queen sat at a high table, wearing a gown of purple velvet, with a canopy of estate above her. . . Music played throughout, and a number of delicious dishes were served to her throughout on bended knee by her great-uncle Lord William Howard, and the Earl of Sussex. . . The nobility kept their coronets on during the feasting, only taking them off when the Queen rose to drink their health, and thank them for all the trouble they had taken on her behalf. . . During the banquet, as was customary, the Queen's Champion, Sir Edward Dymoke, rode into the Hall in full armour, daring any to challenge the Queen's title. . . The celebrations would continue for the next few days. . . It is incredible to think that on her mother’s side only six generations ago, one of Elizabeth’s Boleyn ancestors had been a humble prosperous person from Salle, Norfolk and now a Elizabeth - a descendant - was sitting on the throne of England as the Monarch. . . Pictured left is a copy of the Coronation Portrait of Queen Elizabeth I. Pictured top right are actresses Glenda Jackson - who portrayed Elizabeth in the BBC series “Elizabeth R” (1971) and the film “Mary Queen of Scots” (1972) and Cate Blanchett from the film “Elizabeth” (1998). ** ANNE BOLEYN'S DAUGHTER ELIZABETH IS CROWNED QUEEN OF ENGLAND, Part 2 ** . . For part 1 see previous post. . . Elizabeth’s coronation oath was administered from an English Bible held aloft by William Cecil, although she was nevertheless proclaimed 'Defender of the True, Ancient, Catholic Faith'. . . Elizabeth retired to change her gown during the lengthy ceremonies that followed, emerging after her anointing in crimson velvet surmounted by a mantle of cloth of gold. In this she sat enthroned, as the ring that symbolically wedded her to her people was placed upon the fourth finger her right hand to the sound of trumpets. . . Then the climax of the ceremonies- the crowning itself- when first St Edward's Crown- and then the Imperial Crown of England, were placed in turn on Elizabeth's head. Following this Elizabeth emerged from the Abbey in full regalia, and wearing a smaller crown (perhaps the one made for Anne to wear at her coronation), and carrying the Orb and Sceptre, walked in procession back the way she had come, to Westminster Hall for the lavish coronation banquet. . . Along the way, Elizabeth smiled broadly and shouted greetings to the enthusiastic crowds lining the way. The Mantuan Ambassador sniffed that 'she exceeded the bounds of gravity and decorum'. . . But Elizabeth's subjects did not share his opinion, they were completely won over by their new Queen. Little did they know, that this would be how she would continue to act towards them for the rest of her reign. . . It was a historic day, twenty-two years earlier Elizabeth's mother Anne Boleyn had been executed on false charges, her body placed in a chest that contained bow staves and hastily buried in the Chapel at the Tower. No one then could have predicted that her daughter would actually come to wear the crown of England in her own right. It certainly was a posthumous triumph for Anne and her family.
On This Day in 1559 Queen Elizabeth I Having succeeded her half-sister Mary to the throne the previous November, the 25-year-old Elizabeth is officially crowned queen. ** ANNE BOLEYN'S DAUGHTER ELIZABETH IS CROWNED QUEEN OF ENGLAND, Part 1 ** . . 459 years ago #onthisday - January 15 - (which fell on a Sunday), in 1559 years ago, Elizabeth, daughter of Queen Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII was formally crowned Queen of England at Westminster Abbey. . . The weather that day was frosty and crisp, with a light snow covering the ground. Elizabeth emerged from Westminster Hall, dressed in her coronation robes beneath a swirling mantle of embroidered silk lined with ermine, with fine silk and gold stockings and a crimson velvet cap adorned with venice gold and pearls. . . Elizabeth left to the joyous sound of fifes, drums, portable organs and all the bells of London's Churches. Elizabeth walked from Westminster Hall to the Abbey, along a blue carpet, with a canopy above her borne by the Barons of the Clinque Ports; the Duchess of Norfolk (who was her relative by marriage) bore her train. No sooner had Elizabeth passed than the crowds fell upon the carpet, tearing pieces off as souvenirs, and almost knocking over the poor Duchess in the process. . . Westminster Abbey itself must have been a sight to behold, glowing with the hundreds of burning torches and candles, illuminating the rich and splendid tapestries. With nearly the whole peerage of England present, that when the Queen was presented for her subjects acceptance, and the incredible shouts of acclaim, and such thundering and crashing of organs, trumpets and bells that it seemed to some as if the end of the world have arrived. . . Elizabeth's coronation was the last to be conducted according to the Medieval Latin (at Bishop Oglethorpe's insistence), although parts of it- the Epistle and Gospel- were read in English. Oglethorpe officiated, assisted by Dr Feckenham (the last Abbot of Westminster). . . During the mass, the Queen refused to be present at the elevation of the Host, and retired to a curtained pew in St Edward's Chapel until that was over (much to the happiness of her Protestant subjects). . . Part 2 to follow shortly.

Part 5: Robb talks to Anne and Jaime, who are in captivity. When Anne and Jaime are talking to/about one another, I realize it could be read as if they were lovers but they're not. Anne just cares very much for her stepson, just as she does her other stepchildren and biological children, and Jaime loves her as a mother. So sorry I haven't posted parts in a while, not only has school had me worn out, but I also had a bad case of writers block. #onthisday - January 15 - in 1569, Catherine Carey, Lady Knollys died at Hampton Court Palace aged about 44. . . Catherine was the daughter of Mary Boleyn, niece of Queen Anne Boleyn and first cousin of Queen Elizabeth I. . . Catherine married Francis Knollys in 1540, they had 14 children together. . . The reign of Elizabeth also saw large grants being made to the Knollys family. . . Catherine was buried following a grand funeral paid for by her Royal cousin. The inscription on her monument reads; . . “The Right Honourable Lady Catherine Knollys, chief Lady of the Queen's Majesty's Bedchamber, and Wife to Sir Francis Knollys, Knight, Treasurer of Her Highnesses Houshold, departed this Life the Fifteenth of January, 1568, at Hampton-Court, and was honourably buried in the Floor of this Chapel. . . I have been struggling through this book. It’s been in my TBR pile since last summer, so I thought my drive across the country would be a great time to jump into it. It’s a dense story full of English history. The book covers 8 years over 604 pages. I’ve decided to finish it, but it’s definitely setting my monthly average back. #theunreadshelfproject2018 #wolfhall #henryviii #januaryreads #mmdreadingchallenge2018 #bookover500pages #anneboleyn #thomascromwell
